Frequently Asked Questions

General FAQ

Am I able to see the same veterinarian each time my pet is there?

Absolutely! If you or your pet prefers a particular doctor, we will do everything possible to honor that request. In the event your doctor is not available or your pet is being treated as an emergency, please know that all of our doctors provide exceptional care.

Does my pet need to be on a leash or carrier at the clinic?

Yes! For patient and human safety, all animals entering or exiting the clinic should be restrained by a leash or carrier.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Cash, Check, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Care Credit and Scratchpay.

Payment for all services is due at the time services are rendered.

Do you accept Pet Insurance?

Yes, all insurance plans will allow you to use Cinco Ranch Veterinary Hospital. You will just need to submit all of the required forms to your insurance carrier.

We recommend Trupanion Pet Insurance to take advantage of VetDirect Pay.

Is Cinco Ranch Veterinary Hospital staffed 24/7?

We are open and fully staffed Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

If your pet requires continuous monitoring or after-hours care, we may recommend transferring them to a 24-hour facility to ensure they receive the attention they need.

It is not always easy for me to make appointments around my schedule. Is it possible for me to drop off my pet on my way to work and then pick him/her up after work?

Yes! We offer convenient drop-off appointments. Please note that availability may depend on your pet’s condition. For the safety of all pets in our care, drop-off appointments may not be available for pets with potentially contagious illnesses, and all pets being dropped off must meet our vaccine requirements.

May I call for an update on my pet when he/she is at the hospital?

Absolutely! Patient updates are encouraged. Our doctors and staff make every effort to return calls and provide updates as promptly as possible.

What types of animals can be treated at Cinco Ranch Veterinary Hospital?

Our practice primarily focuses on the care of dogs and cats.

Why am I sometimes not allowed to refill prescriptions without bringing my pet in for an examination?

State law requires that a valid doctor–client–patient relationship be maintained in order for medications to be prescribed or refilled. This means pets must be examined by a veterinarian at least once a year, and more frequently for certain medical conditions. Some medications used to manage chronic illnesses also require periodic blood work to monitor drug levels and ensure proper organ function.

Where is my pet housed when at the hospital?

While in our care, all pets are housed in individual, climate-controlled kennels and runs. We provide kennel mats, towels, and blankets to ensure their comfort. For safety and hygiene, we ask that leashes, toys, blankets, or bedding from home not be left with your pet.

Can I come in to see where my pet’s procedure will be done? Do you give tours of the clinic?

We take pride in our facility and are happy to welcome individuals or groups for a tour. While tours may be limited during surgeries or emergencies, you can ask for a tour today!

Do you provide boarding and grooming services?

Yes, we do! Ask for a boarding tour today or speak with one of our groomers to learn more about our boarding and grooming services.

Will I be provided an estimate?

We provide a good-faith estimate of the cost of services, as requested, before treating your pet, but please understand that unforeseen circumstances may affect the final bill. We always review the written estimate with clients before they leave our facility and require a deposit based on the estimate before any additional treatment is provided.

Should I call ahead to make an appointment?

Yes! Please call ahead to book an appointment so we can ensure there’s time in our schedule to see your pet. If your pet requires emergency care during our regular business hours, contact us immediately. Please note that walk-in appointments may need to be accommodated into the schedule and could be subject to a higher fee.

Do you have a mobile app?

Your pet’s care is always within reach. With the PetOne Veterinary app, you can book visits, message your care team, manage personalized recommendations, refill prescriptions, and stay connected to everything your pet needs—all in one easy place.

Do you offer wellness plans?

Yes — Cinco Ranch Veterinary Hospital offers wellness plans, often called PawPlans, to help make preventive care more affordable for your pet. These plans bundle routine services like wellness exams, essential vaccines, and other preventive care with savings of up to about 25%, and may include options for monthly or annual payments.

If you’re interested in learning more about what’s included or enrolling your pet, just ask during your next visit or contact the hospital for details!

I get my pet’s medication from a different online pharmacy—how is it approved for us at your clinic?

We do not approve medications from third-party pharmacies. Clients must come in to pick up a written prescription and send it to the pharmacy of their choice.

To make things easier, we offer our own online pharmacy where prescriptions can be ordered directly—no separate written prescription needed—and it links seamlessly with your pet’s account at our hospital. Pricing is comparable to other online pharmacies, so you can get convenience without paying more.

What is the process & timing for international health certificates?

The timing for international health certificates varies depending on your travel destination. The first step is to submit an International Health Certificate questionnaire.

Once we receive the completed questionnaire along with your pet’s medical records—including vaccines, microchip information, and relevant history—we will schedule a consultation with one of our veterinarians to review your pet’s travel requirements and discuss the appropriate timing.
